Our Purpose

To encourage a passion for prayer and to provide prayer opportunities for all.

Prayer Ministry

Have you ever experienced God’s healing power in your life? Would you like to feel comfortable praying for others? Healing prayer is one of the greatest gifts that we can give each other. We are offering an opportunity for you to be trained to pray effectively for others.

Prayer ministers are available to everyone after all worship services to pray with you on an individual basis for your specific needs.

Here are some prayer opportunities where you get involved:

  • “Keep In Your Prayers”
We have a section in the Sunday bulletin for prayer requests and we invite you to pray over them during the week.

  • Email Prayer Chain
Join the email prayer chain by signing up in the church entry area or email prayers@mvlutheran.org.

  • Time to Pray
Join others in worship and praise and pray for our congregation, current world events and the needs of individuals:

       Thursday, 9:00–10:00am / Spontaneous setting
Contact: Sheila Coonen at 480-893-2579 ext. 120

       Thursday, 7:00–8:00pm / Structured setting
       Contact: Ingeborg Mack at 480-961-4649

  • Post Service Prayer Ministry
Join the prayer ministry team to pray after the worship services with and for people and their needs. Training will be provided. For more information, contact Gail Brady at 480-893-3508

  • Prayer Room
A quiet place in our noisy world, where you can rest in God’s presence. Books on prayer and meditation are available. Our prayer room is located on the south east side of the Sanctuary. Access through door opposite of the Memorial Garden.

The prayer room is available during regular office hours (Monday-Friday, 8:30am-3:30pm). Please stop by the office so someone can unlock the door for you, however, please note that the room will need to be relocked at 3:30pm.

Compline (Evening Prayer) Worship

Wednesdays at 7:30pm in the Sanctuary:

June 23, July 7 & 21, August 4 & 18

This service is in our green hymnal (page 154). We will use the hymnal, so it should be easy for all to follow along. The service can be spoken or sung. It is a very quiet and contemplative service, a wonderful way to be still, forego conversation with others, and be with God at the end of a hot and busy day.

Brief Background:
Compline (pronounced /ˈkɒmplɪn/; also Complin, Night Prayer, Prayers at the End of the Day) is the final church service of the day in the Christian tradition of canonical hours. The English word Compline is derived from the Latin completorium, as Compline is the completion of the working day. The word was first used in this sense about the beginning of the 6th century by St. Benedict in his Rule , and he even uses the verb complere to signify Compline: "Omnes ergo in unum positi compleant" ("All having assembled in one place, let them say Compline"); "et exuentes a completorio" ("and, after going out from Compline...")
