General Information
“DASH to Health” is a 4-part interactive workshop, led by By Debbie Richardson, MA, RD, that focuses on improving your health through nutrition and lifestyle, and reducing your risk of disease. The lifestyle plan is based on the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute’s DASH diet and the 2005 Dietary Guidelines for Americans. Eating according to the DASH lifestyle approach has many benefits that include:
- Teaching participants how to reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease, cancer, diabetes and osteoporosis through easy-to-follow DASH diet guidelines.
- Determining your “baseline” health status.
- Providing a complementary diet plan for people previously diagnosed with any of the above-mentioned illnesses.
- Helping you learn how to maintain a healthy weight or reduce your weight as needed by following the DASH guidelines.
- Giving you hands-on experience in preparing nutritious and good-tasting recipes, and then enjoying the fellowship of dining together.
- Teaching you how to read and understand food labels and make healthier choices.
- Providing information on the need for supplements and how to determine the quality of a supplement.
- Educating participants on eating healthier in restaurants.
The cost is $20.00 per person to cover materials and food. Space will be limited to 26 people.
